JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has prepared a Draft Presidential Regulation (RPerpres) of the Fish Food Communicable Movement (Gemarikan) as a strategic step to support national food security.
The policy not only aims to increase fish consumption as a source of high quality environmentally friendly protein, but also to mobilize all elements of the nation to jointly realize food self-sufficiency which is part of the national defense and security system.
"Primation is a solution to improve the quality of life of the Indonesian people as well as become a fishery business provider which will ultimately improve people's welfare," said KKP Director General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDPSKP) Tornanda Syaifullah in his official statement, quoted Friday, September 26.
According to Tornanda, Gemarikan requires the involvement of all elements of the nation, both central, regional governments, related business actors/privates, universities, community organizations and professionals to work together to build awareness of individual nutrition and community collectives consuming fish more often.
As for the RPerpres Gemarikan, the KKP has carried out public consultations as part of the meanful participation. Later, the contents of the RPerpres will contain a number of points, including the provision of quality fish and are safe for consumption, easy access and increasing public interest in consuming fish.

"There will also be a five-year action plan through the establishment of the Gemarikan National Coordination Team, mechanisms and work procedures as well as monitoring, evaluation and reporting. This includes funding arrangements sourced from the APBN, APBD and other sources," he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy for Capture Fisheries Management of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Yogi Yanuar, emphasized that Gemarikan is closely related to food self-sufficiency in the 2025-2029 RPJMN. This movement, according to Yogi, is part of the transformation of the national food system based on the blue economy.
"The Coordinating Ministry for Food as Chair of the National Coordination Team will ensure that the Gemmarkan action plan is effective, synergistic and sustainable to support the nation's independence," he said.
