JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that 23,420 housing units throughout Indonesia needed to be renovated.

The renovation will be carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) through the self-help housing stimulant assistance program (BSPS).

This was conveyed by AHY at the Indonesia Property Forum in Jakarta, Thursday, September 25.

"This self-help housing stimulant assistance is an instrument that is dedicated to helping people to have more decent houses. Until September 12, 2025, it is still in the field verification stage, which is 23,420 housing units and this continues to move," he said.

AHY did not deny that currently 9.9 million households in Indonesia do not have their own homes and as many as 26.9 million other households live in uninhabitable houses.

"Today, Indonesia faces a serious challenge, of which approximately 9.9 million households do not yet have their own homes. Meanwhile, around 26.9 million households live in uninhabitable houses, do not have adequate sanitation, then are very congested. In fact, it can be said that many people are infected with disease because the environment is not healthy," said AHY.

To deal with the housing backlog and uninhabitable houses, AHY said, President Prabowo Subianto's government also initiated the program of 3 million houses.

"When talking about the 3 million house program, of course it's not just thinking about building the physical, but whether the houses can be reached by our people. Especially low-income people, our brothers and sisters who for daily life are difficult for them to fulfill, (it) is still quite a lot," said the chairman of the Democratic Party.

According to AHY, the purpose of the 3 million house priority program is not only to answer the lack of housing needs, but it is also expected to significantly drive the economy.

"At least this will open up jobs," he concluded.

Previously, the Ministry of PKP received a budget allotment of IDR 10.89 trillion in the 2026 RAPBN. Later, the budget will be used to support the construction of 406,457 housing units through various programs.

PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait (Ara) said the allocation of the budget would be used for the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) program or renovation of self-help houses that would receive an allocation of IDR 8.90 trillion.

The BSPS target next year is 400,000 housing units in coastal, urban and rural areas.

"For BSPS, compared to 2025 we increased 773.5 percent. So, the increase is quite significant for 2026," said Ara during a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission V DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, September 4.
