Up 10.69 Percent, KAI Transports 453,030 Tourists Until August 2025

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI noted that from January to August 2025, 453,030 foreign tourists (WNA) had been served. This figure is up 10.69 percent compared to the same period last year.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said this positive trend is proof that foreign tourists are increasingly trusted by trains as the main mode of transportation to explore the beauty and richness of Indonesian culture.

"The train is a mainstay because it offers comfortable travel, on time, and connects tourists directly to various leading destinations in Java and Sumatra," said Anne, Sunday, September 14.

Specifically for August 2025, continued Anne, KAI recorded a record high of the last two years with 89,166 foreigners traveling by train in just one month.

"This spike was triggered by the global holiday season, ideal sunny weather, to the festive international-scale cultural agendas such as Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC) which attracted the world's attention," he said.

Anne said the presence of JFC also encourages tourists to explore further, especially towards Banyuwangi with Ijen Crater, Baluran National Park, and exotic beaches.

Anne said this data also maps out the favorite tourist tourist route on the island of Java. Yogyakarta is consistently the prima donna thanks to its rich culture and history, from Borobudur Temple, Prambanan, to Malioboro.

"Jakarta (Gambir and Pasarsenen) functions as the main gateway for travel, while Bandung is captivated by a combination of natural tourism, culinary, and shopping," he said.

In East Java, Probolinggo is busy because access to Mount Bromo, Surabaya Gubeng presents large city tours with a touch of history, while Malang offers coolness and family tourism in Batu.

Semarang Tawang is known for its charm in Old Town and spring rolls, while Banyuwangi is increasingly firmly holding the nickname The Sunrise of Java, he said.

Anne emphasized that this achievement shows that trains are not just a means of transportation, but a tourist route that brings together the world with the charm of Indonesia from west to east.
