Foreigners Accused Of Riding Demo, Economist: Action Movement Appears Because People Are Restless

JAKARTA - Director of Digital Economy, Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Nailul Huda assessed that the massive demonstration movement that occurred in the last few days had purely emerged because the people were restless, not because of foreign interests.

"Regarding foreign interests, I don't think it's true because this movement arises because people are angry, restless, about their economic condition," he told VOI, Friday, August 29.

Nailul said people find it difficult to get jobs and income.

The people's anger, he continued, had peaked, so that a massive action emerged as it is today.

"They are getting harder to get a job, it's hard to get income. When it peaks, an action like yesterday occurs," he said.

Previously, the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Hendropriyono claimed to have known the mastermind behind the demonstrations that took place at the DPR building in recent days.

He said that from outside they were the masterminds of the demonstration and had accomplices in Indonesia that they controlled.

"(The trunk) is from outside. From outside. People who from outside only move their accomplices inside," said Hendropriyono at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 28.

"And I am very sure that the accomplices inside do not understand that he is used. But in time it must be opened," he continued.

Based on his experience, Hendropriyono admitted that he knew there were parties riding a demonstration to protest against the DPR around the Parliament Complex, Jakarta. One day, he said, the name of the mastermind will be revealed to the public.

"I'm not smarter. But I'm all experienced. And this is someone playing like that. In time I was able to tell you his name was playing. It was from there," said Hendropriyono.

Even so, Hendropriyono gave instructions that the figure was not a statesman or non-state actor. However, this figure has a big influence on policy making in the country they live in.

The character's goal, according to Hendropriyono, is to intend to colonize in other ways and cause democracy to become more chaotic.

"The goal is the same. We also wanted to colonize it from the start. But it's another way. In the past, we used bullets, we used bombs. If we were still silent, we would run out," said Hendropriyono.
