JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung gave a signal that the government would not grant permission to extend the export of copper concentrates for PT Freeport Indonesia.

Yuliot assessed that the copper concentrate export license that was granted at that time was due to the presence of a force majeure. Just so you know, the condition of the palace that PTFI was facing was a fire at the sulfate acid factory which is one of the important components in the process of refining the copper concentrate.

"For freeport, yesterday it was confirmed relaxation. It's in a bad condition," said Yuliot to the media crew in Tripatra Darmawangsa, Wednesday, August 27.

According to him, the export license granted for 6 months due to the repair of the sulfate acid factory is expected to be completed in the same period.

"It is estimated that it will be completed within 6 months. When it is finished, there will be no further extension," said Yuliot.

Meanwhile, when met on the same occasion, the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas, revealed that his party was still waiting for an evaluation from the government regarding the continuation of the copper concentrate export license.

Just so you know, the government only gave export permits until September 16, 2025. The export permit was granted following a smelter fire that occurred some time ago and a smelter that had not yet operated at full capacity.

"It will be evaluated by the government, so according to the Ministerial Decree it will indeed be evaluated when it ends. That's what we are waiting for the results of the evaluation from the government," said Tony.

According to him, the evaluation carried out by the government will take a lot of time. On the other hand, ramp ups or increase in smelter production capacity are still being carried out according to the curves planned by Freeport.

"It started with 40 percent, 50 percent, 60 percent, now it's close to 70 percent," Tony said.
