JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman ensured that the government's rice reserves (CBP) were in very safe condition. Currently, the government's total rice stock is recorded at 3.9 million tons.

"The government's rice reserves are still 3.9 million tons, still quite large. Very safe. If later we have 1 million SPHP, the estimated year-end is at least 2.5'2.7 million tons. And that is still quite high," said Amran, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat channel, Monday, August 25.

Amran explained that the government continues to intensify the distribution of rice Stability of Supply and Food Prices (SPHP) in order to maintain price stability in the market. Until the end of 2025, the government prepared 1.3 million tons of SPHP rice.

"We will carry out a massive market operation until December (2025). We have prepared 1.3 million tons of SPHP rice," he said.

According to Amran, the SPHP distribution target is increased gradually to reach 10,000 tons per day. With this step, the government is optimistic that rice prices will continue to decline.

"God willing, in the future the price of rice will gradually fall. We have reached 6,000 tons per day, the next target is 7,000, and will reach 10,000 tons per day," he said.

Previously, Minister of Agriculture Amran expressed his gratitude for Indonesia's achievements in being able to stop rice imports amid the global food crisis. Meanwhile, a number of developed countries, such as Japan, experienced a 90.7 percent increase in rice prices in July 2025, the highest since 1971. In Indonesia, it has succeeded in maintaining food security by relying on domestic production.

"Alhamdulillah, we should be grateful that the domestic rice stock is very sufficient, so this year we are not importing rice. Until August, rice stocks are safe and production on the track continues to increase," he said.

"In Japan, rice prices jumped 90.7 percent in July 2025, the highest since 1971, until people lined up to get cheap rice. Meanwhile, Indonesia was able to meet the needs of its own production. This is an extraordinary achievement," continued Amran.

Based on data from FAO, USDA, and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), national rice production increased significantly from 30.62 million tons in 2024 to 33.8'35.6 million tons in 2025. Meanwhile, government rice reserves reached a record high in the last 57 years, namely 4.2 million tons, far beyond last year's stock of only about 1 million tons.

Amran added that the second harvest in September 2025 is expected to further strengthen the national rice supply.

"In the past, we had a stock deficit and were forced to import 7 million tons in 2023 and 34 million tons in 2024. Now, our stock is the highest in history and the world recognizes Indonesia's food security. FAO and the American Department of Agriculture praised this achievement," he explained.
