Coordinating Minister Airlangga Calls There Are No Limits For Trump Tariff Negotiations Time

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto revealed that trade negotiations with the United States (US) government do not have a time limit to reach new agreements.

Airlangga explained that the trade agreement was not a matter of setting a schedule, but an effort to benefit both parties.

"Not talking about the online, this is an agreement between the two parties," he said when met at the Ministry of Finance building in Jakarta, Friday, August 22.

Airlangga emphasized that the negotiations referred to were for certain excluded commodities.

The government is trying to make these commodities get an import rate of 0 percent, aka tariff-free.

For your information, between Indonesia and the US, it has agreed that the reciprocal tariff for Indonesia is 19 percent and is valid since August 7, 2025. However, tariffs for a number of certain commodities are still being negotiated.

"The US tariff is already in effect, and there are still those who are excluded. What is excluded is still in process," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso revealed that the Indonesian government was still negotiating with the United States (US) so that a number of commodities that were not produced in the United States could get an import rate of 0 percent.

"We also want that there are commodities that are not produced by America that can get 0 percent (free tariffs)," he said at the Office of the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta, Thursday, August 7.

Even so, Budi did not reveal further what commodities the government would fight for to be free from tariffs from the US.

"Later, that's another negotiation. Don't say (the various products)," said Budi.

Budi believes that the reduction in tariffs can still occur, because previously there was also a change in the rate from 32 percent to 19 percent.

Although, the reciprocal tariff for Indonesia has been in effect from today.

"Now the reciprocal will be enforced on the 7th, while we negotiate again. Because we are given the opportunity to negotiate. Hopefully, before September 1 it will be finished. We will still try to make it better," he said.
