The Progress Is Already 87.8 Percent, The Jragung Dam Is Targeted To Be Completed In September 2026

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is trying to accelerate the completion of the construction of the Jragung Dam in Semarang Regency, Central Java. As of August 10, 2025, the progress of the dam construction has reached 87.8 percent.

"And it is targeted to be completed in September 2026," said PU Minister Dody Hanggodo as quoted from his written statement, Monday, August 11.

According to Dody, the Jragung Dam will be the main support for the new irrigation area which is currently being prepared. "With the target of completing the impacting process in July 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture is targeted to be able to immediately print rice fields in early 2026," he said.

He said the dam could be called premium irrigation. Thus, said Dody, in the future it can increase the planting period.

"So if there is a dam, there is irrigation, we can expect 3 planting times," he said.

The construction of the Jragung Dam began in October 2020 by the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS), Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works. The water infrastructure with a capacity of 90 million cubic meters has an inundation area of 451 hectares.

The main benefit of the dam is to supply water for the Jragung Irrigation Area (DI) covering an area of 4,528 hectares in Demak and Grobogan Regencies.

In addition to the irrigation function, the dam also supplies raw water of 1,000 liters per second. In detail, Semarang City is 400 liters per second, Grobogan Regency is 250 liters per second and Demak Regency reaches 350 liters per second.

In addition, the Jragung Dam is also designed as a flood control infrastructure covering an area of 3,858 hectares and has the potential to be developed into a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) of 90 MW and a Micro-hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) of 1.4 MW.

It is hoped that the Jragung Dam can increase agricultural productivity through the rice-padi-palawija planting pattern.
