Electric Vehicles In Indonesia Reaches 43 Thousand Units, BPI Danantara Highlights Strategic Opportunities

JAKARTA - The Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) sees that Indonesia continues to move towards the use of environmentally friendly transportation and this can be a strategic opportunity.

Through its official Instagram account @danantara.indonesia, throughout 2024, the number of electric vehicles in Indonesia has exceeded the number of 43 thousand units.

Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) quoted by Danantara, the increase in the number of electric vehicles has occurred quite drastically in the last five years, where in 2020, there were only 125 electric vehicles operating on Indonesian roads.

"In Indonesia, this trend is increasingly evident from only 125 EV units that paved in 2020, surging to more than 43,000 units in 2024," he wrote in his upload, quoted on Sunday, August 10.

Meanwhile, Danantara Indonesia also encourages a sustainable connectivity ecosystem together with companies in its management such as PLN, Pertamina, MIND ID from the provision of raw materials, battery development, to the development of SPKLU infrastructure.

"This is a step towards a green industry and a low future of emissions," he wrote.

In more detail, the contribution of SOEs covers the entire chain of the electric vehicle industry, namely in the upstream sector, MIND ID manages strategic mineral reserves such as nickel, alumina, copper so that the supply of EV battery raw materials is guaranteed.

In addition, MIND ID through its subsidiary ANTAM together with Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) and CBL built an Integrated Electric Battery Industry Ecosystem from upstream to downstream.

Meanwhile, downstream there is PLN which also builds electric vehicle infrastructure through 4,062 SPKLU machines in 2,702 locations covering the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara to Papua.

In addition, collaboration with 51 partners, as well as providing easy access to information for electric vehicle drivers through the PLN Mobile application.

Meanwhile, the development of this ecosystem is a tangible manifestation of the green industry, reducing carbon emissions and reducing fossil energy dependence in Indonesia.
