To Maintain Price Stability, Bapanas Targets 12,000 Tons of SPHP Rice per Day by the End of the Year

JAKARTA The head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, emphasized that SPHP rice needs to continue to be poured into the market to maintain price and supply stability (SPHP). According to his calculations, the ideal distribution is in the range of 12,000 tons per day until the end of the year.

"So, it's been reactivated and should be starting to arrive. The final distribution was around 14,000 tons."

"This will continue. The main thing is to get it into the market quickly. According to my calculations, it should average around 12,000 tons per day by the end of the year."

"Therefore, this SPHP rice continues. It won't stop. The deadline is this year, December 31, 2025."

"We continue to accelerate and expand distribution channels. Affordable, high-quality SPHP rice must be available to the public, especially low-income earners," said Arief in an official statement on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

The National Board of National Development Planning (Bapanas) has also refined the Technical Guidelines (Juknis) for implementing SPHP rice at the consumer level for the period July–December 2025 through the Head of Bapanas Decree Number 224 of 2025.

SPHP distribution can now be carried out through various channels, including retailers in traditional markets, the Merah Putih Village Cooperative, fostered food outlets, the Affordable Food Movement (GPM), state-owned enterprise outlets, government agencies, Bulog's Our Food House (RPK), and supermarkets/non-wholesale modern stores.

Meanwhile, the Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of Bapanas, I Gusti Ketut Astawa, stated that the target for accelerating the operation of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative this month is to reach 15,000 units.

"The target is to accelerate the operational capacity of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih) this month to 15,000. The institutional and task forces at the provincial, district, and city levels are already close to 100 percent."

"If the number of Kopdes increases, the government's food intervention programs, such as SPHP rice, can reach a wider audience."

"We hope to reduce rice price fluctuations, as will inflation. So, going forward, the government, along with Bulog, will intensify this program, including through the Merah Putih Kopdes network," said Ketut.

As of August 8, 2025, the distribution of SPHP rice for the July–December period had reached 14,900 tons.

Meanwhile, distribution through the Merah Putih Cooperatives increased significantly, from 53.72 tons on August 1 to 106 tons as of August 8, a 97.32 percent increase.

In comparison, the realization of SPHP rice in 2024 reached 1.401 million tons, or 100.12 percent of the annual target of 1.4 million tons.

The government is optimistic that with the expansion of distribution channels, this year's distribution target can be achieved.
