JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita asked domestic automotive manufacturers to survive in the midst of sluggish people's purchasing power.

One of the steps directed by the government is not to terminate employment (PHK) for employees.

"Although the market is currently in a sluggish quote, we ask them not to lay off," Agus said after the opening of GIIAS 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday, July 24.

In addition, the government also requested that automotive manufacturers in the country not increase their selling price.

"Alhamdulillah, the big players in the automotive industry in Indonesia have made this commitment," he said.

According to Agus, this situation is only temporary and will not last long.

He believes that the Indonesian economy will recover soon and the automotive industry must be prepared to welcome this momentum.

"We really believe this is just temporary. We are optimistic that the Indonesian economy will soon grow well, grow much higher. If that happens, there is no other word the automotive industry must be ready," said Agus.

"Because later people will return to shopping and when it comes, it is certain that the automotive industry will fly high," he continued.

When the domestic auto market was sluggish, Agus also asked the manufacturer to prepare a number of strategies to find other markets, one of which was through exports.

"Let's make Indonesia a center for production and automotive exports competitive. Gaikindo has proven himself to be a strategic and reliable partner for the government in difficult and good times," he said.
