JAKARTA - UNAIR Professor of Communication, Henri Subiakto, said that doing business online is something that must be encouraged, especially during a pandemic like today.

According to him, it is only logical that concerns arise, because during a pandemic, people cannot do their fullest activities. Several aspects of the economy have suffered a devastating blow, especially those related to tourism, related to transportation or things around it.

However, he said, during the pandemic there were positive sides, one of which was related to online business. In fact, many of the online business worlds emerged during the pandemic era.

"Our economy is also related to the digital economy, the online economy in Southeast Asia is still the best economy compared to other countries, the digital economy is still growing while other countries experience difficulties," he explained.

He explained that Singapore, which is accustomed to exporting, has suffered a tremendous blow. However, if Indonesia is from an online-based economy, it is much better than other countries.

"Number two Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and lastly the Philippines are also a bit slumped, the digital economy growth in ASEAN for Indonesia is still positive, still 40 percent of the strength of the digital economy in ASEAN countries," he said.

In fact, he said, in 2019 to 2020, Indonesia experienced an increase in the number of actors or consumers who used digital applications for e-commerce trading.

"Up 10 million, so it's no kidding, other countries have difficulties but Indonesia has increased by 10 million. People who do not live in cities, on the outskirts of cities or in villages.
