The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has officially donated five vessels caught in a fisheries crime to joint fishing groups (KUB) of fishermen or fisheries cooperatives. The ships had previously had permanent legal force and were confiscated by the state.
The signing of the Minutes of Handover of State Property from the Indonesian Attorney General's Office to the KKP was carried out in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 10.
The five ships that were handed over were KM. SLFA 5323 (68 GT) is in Dumai Riau; KM Blessing (69 GT) in Banda Aceh; and KM. KHF 1355 (60 GT) in Belawan; KM. SLFA 3763 (45 GT); and KM. PFKA 7541 (33 GT) in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
The Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) of the KKP Pung Nugroho Saksono (Ipunk) said the move was a manifestation of the fishing policy carried by the KKP.
"The ships are no longer destroyed or drowned, but are used for the economic interests of fishermen," said Ipunk as quoted from his written statement, Saturday, July 12.

According to Ipunk, ship distribution is carried out selectively, considering the needs and operational readiness of the recipients. In addition, the KKP will also carry out periodic monitoring and evaluation to ensure the ship is actually used according to its objectives.
"To ensure that the ships are used on target and on purpose and are not misused or traded," he said.
Previously, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that ship grants to fishermen were part of the Indonesian Government's efforts to increase productivity and welfare of coastal communities.
The ships that have been handed over have also been confirmed to be suitable for use.
