Passengers Ride At Belawan Port Until June Reaches 92,820 People

JAKARTA - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or Pelni Medan Branch, North Sumatra, recorded 92,820 passengers riding at Belawan Port during June 2025.

"From January to June 2025, as many as 92,820 people who rose from Belawan Port or experienced an increase of 6.43 percent on an annual basis," said Head of Pelni Medan Branch Yuniati Fatimah as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 5.

Yuniati said that the increase could not be separated from competitive prices and the better service for Pelni to passengers.

Furthermore, he said, Pelni also offers facilities on board that can increase comfort for passengers as part of promotions, such as mini cinemas, "sea wifi", cafes, mini markets, and new toilet facilities.

In addition, Pelni improves services by continuing to provide convenience in terms of purchasing and paying tickets from various selected networks.

"In a certain period, there is also a discount on ticket prices and free tickets given by the government for passengers who want to travel by ship," he said.

He said, to increase the number of passengers, his party was supported by the Ministry of Transportation to provide a ticket discount of 50 percent in order to support the economic stimulus during the period from June 5 to July 31, 2025.

"The program also coincides with the holiday period for school children so that with a high amount of demand and a 50 percent discount economic stimulus program, it can increase public interest in using sea transportation modes," he said.

He added that passengers who disembarked at Belawan Port also experienced an increase of 16.8 percent or 80,722 people compared to the same period in 2024.
