JAKARTA - The City Government of Bandung ensures that food stocks ahead of Eid 2021 are safe to meet the needs of the City of Bandung.
Head of the Food Distribution and Consumption Division of the Food and Agriculture Security Service of Bandung City, Usep Awaludin, said that people are still advised not to spend excessively even though it is certain that it is safe.
"We ask people not to consume too much. Because the demand is not too high the price will be relatively stable. Don't worry, the availability of foodstuffs is maintained safely", said Usep in Bandung, West Java, as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, May 5.
Before entering the month of Ramadan, a coordination meeting was held for the National Religious Holidays with several related parties. He said that food suppliers, distributors, or producers have stated that they are ready to increase food supply to the city of Bandung.
According to him, around 90 percent of Bandung's main food needs are supplied from outside the region. Apart from being a big city, Bandung City benefits from its position because it is the provincial capital which is the main point of distribution of foodstuffs.
"If you look at the availability in the city of Bandung as a distributive collective, the foodstuffs will go to Bandung first. After that, it will be distributed to other cities. So, God willing, food availability is still safe", he said.
In addition to ensuring stock availability, Usep stated that the Bandung City Government also checks the safety and health of incoming food. Inspection and testing are carried out periodically to prevent contaminated food from entering the city of Bandung.
According to him, food stocks that enter the city of Bandung are imported from several regions in Central Java, East Java, Lampung, Bandung Regency, and Garut.
"Then the eggs come from Ciamis, Sukabumi, Tasik, Bandung Regency, Central Java, and Blitar. For chicken meat, there are supplies from the districts of Bandung, Cianjur, Ciamis, Tasik and Central Java", said Usep.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Trade Distribution and Metrological Supervision Division of the Bandung City Trade and Industry Office, Meiwan Kartiwa, revealed that from the results of routine monitoring in eight traditional markets, several commodities have started to fluctuate.
Even though an increase was observed, according to Meiwan, it was still within a reasonable limit. Especially if you remember that Eid will soon be approaching.
"If demand is high, goods are not available, then there will be an increase in prices. But if stocks are available even though there is a slight increase, it is still reasonable. Because traders have reasoned that they want Eid once a year to raise prices", said Meiwan.
"But we have advised that the increase should not be too significant because not all people can buy at an increased price", he added.
