JAKARTA - The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) appreciates the strategic steps to develop an integrated electric vehicle battery industry carried out by the BUMN consortium and global partners in East Halmahera and Karawang.

The project, which was initiated by Antam, IBC, and CBL, is considered a pillar of industrial transformation and an important catalyst towards national energy independence.

Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade explained that Antam's strategic steps were important in the milestone of national industrial growth.

Industry growth that prioritizes the role of SOEs is the driving force of the national economy.

This battery industry project is a clear proof of the success of mineral and coal downstreaming. This is not only about building factories, but building the future of the Indonesian electric vehicle industry. We in the DPR RI fully support it, because it brings added value, creates jobs, and strengthens Indonesia's position in the global supply chain," said Andre, quoted Monday, June 30.

He added that the development of an integrated battery industry from nickel mines to battery cell production will be a turning point for Indonesia's dependence on fossil energy.

This downstream program is in accordance with Pak Prabowo's government agenda. We hope that nickel Downstream into batteries can become our economic game changer. Not just exports of raw materials, but exports of technology and added value. This must continue to be guarded because it is an entry point for strengthening the national electric car industry," said Andre.

For information, the Integrated Electric Battery Industry Ecosystem Project of the Antam-IBC-CBL Consortium is the world's first integrated nickel-based battery ecosystem and the largest in Southeast Asia.

This ecosystem starts from nickel mining in East Halmahera to the production of electric vehicle batteries in Karawang.

This project is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) with an investment value of 5.9 billion US dollars and covers an area of 3,023 hectares and is able to absorb 35,000 direct workers, local economic growth, and 18 multifunctional dock infrastructure projects.

Overall, this project will have an electric vehicle battery production capacity of 6.9 GWh which will then be increased to 15 GWh.

This will strengthen Indonesia's position as the largest electric vehicle battery producer in Southeast Asia.

The electric battery industry will be integrated, which is projected to supply batteries for 300,000 vehicles which can reduce fuel imports by 300,000 kilo liters per year.
