BNI Pilih Strengthens Cheap Funds To Efficiency To Maintain Profitability

JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has prepared a number of strategies to maintain sustainable profitability, including through increased efficiency, optimizing CASA, and encouraging ecosystem-based business growth and digitization.

BNI Corporate Secretary, Okki Rushartomo explained, BNI proactively carries out efficiency in cost of funds (CoF) while still focusing on raising transaction-based funds. This is done through improving service quality in various digital channels owned by BNI which continue to be developed.

"In addition, we also focus on increasing business growth with competitive pricing and maintaining asset quality. Thus, the yield from lending can remain optimal," Okki explained, quoted on Friday, June 20.

He added that digitalization also had a positive impact on operational efficiency and non-interest income.

This digitization step not only reduces operational burdens, but also increases customer convenience and accessibility. BNI encourages the use of digital platforms such as Wondr by BNI and BNIdirect as the main channel for daily financial transactions.

BNI's move also responded to OJK data which recorded the decline in the banking industry's Net Interest Margin (NIM) to 4.45 percent as of April 2025 due to tight liquidity, competition in funds, and competition with other investment instruments. On the other hand, although the BI benchmark interest rate has begun to fall, the transmission to interest rates and credit has not occurred quickly, so the cost of funds remains high and maintaining profitability is a challenge in itself.

With a combination of efficiency, digitization and focus strategies on low-cost funds, BNI hopes that NIM can be maintained by the end of the year. This step also reflects BNI's readiness to face industrial challenges and strengthen a healthy and sustainable growth foundation.
