The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is trying to accelerate the completion of the Mamminasata Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in South Sulawesi Province (Sulsel).

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of SPAM was a strategic step in accelerating the fulfillment of access to clean water for the community.

"SPAM is not just an infrastructure project, but clear evidence of the state's presence in meeting the basic needs of the community," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Thursday, June 19.

The Ministry of Public Works continues to be committed to increasing access to equitable drinking water in Indonesia through the construction of SPAM.

One of them includes the Mamminasata Regional SPAM in South Sulawesi. This SPAM is projected to be able to serve up to 80,000 house connections (SR) or the equivalent of 400,000 people in the Makassar metropolitan area, including Maros, Gowa and Takalar regencies.

The construction of the Mamminasata SPAM itself is divided into two stages, with the first stage with a capacity of 500 liters per second and is targeted for completion in August 2025.

The Mamminasata SPAM has a total capacity of 1,000 liters per second with a water source originating from the Bili-Bili Dam. The water will be channeled through the transmission network to 10 offtake points spread across four regions.

The first phase of construction is underway including the construction of a water treatment plant (IPA), transmission network and supporting facilities such as reservoirs and the SCADA system.

It is known that the progress of the first phase of the Mamminasata SPAM construction has now reached 90.06 percent for the IPA unit.

Meanwhile, for the second stage, the construction of the main distribution network (JDU) has reached 100 percent.

The Ministry of Public Works also coordinates with the local government (Pemda) so that the construction of further distribution networks and house connections can be started immediately, so that the benefits of this SPAM can be directly felt by the community.

The amount of the budget allocated for the construction of the first phase of the Mamminasata SPAM amounted to Rp78.98 billion from the 2025 budget year (TA) APBN.

Meanwhile, the construction of the JDU has allocated a budget of Rp99.88 billion.

Later, the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works will handle the construction of main units, such as IPA and bulk water transmission.

Meanwhile, local governments are responsible for downstream distribution networks and household connections.

This SPAM will supply bulk water to various regions, such as Biringkanaya and Tamanlarea sub-districts in Makassar, Galesong sub-district in Takalar to coastal and border areas in Gowa and Maros.

Although some of the offtake points have been completed by the APBN, the construction of reservoirs and distribution pipes at several points is still waiting for the readiness of the APBD for each district/city.

The Ministry of Public Works hopes that regional heads can accelerate the execution of the budget to support distribution to residents' homes.
