JAKARTA - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) directs residential areas with a transit oriented development or TOD concept into flats (rusun) in urban areas.

"We have a TOD concept, but it looks like a flat. If the TOD was due to land in TOD, of course the price is also expensive, that's why our concept is the flat," said the Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of PKP Sri Haryati, in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday. June 17th.

Sri gave an example, such as MRT and PT KAI which already have a concept to build residences around transit-oriented development.

"What is the mechanism through? Investment for example, yes. Can this be included in the subsidy mechanism or not? We'll see the price, otherwise we can also enter commercial because of segmentation," he also said.

Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (Menko GPA) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that housing with the concept of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is important to develop.

This is important because of the future trend, 70 percent of Indonesia's population will live in cities. Thus urbanization is something that cannot be prevented, but all the consequences must be anticipated.

This means that the city's resources must be strengthened. Public service must be improved. Do not let the population be more dense, more and more, then the infrastructure does not support, including basic infrastructure, housing is also one of the most basic.

The TOD concept now arises for urban population, urban communities, metropolitan cities, so it needs to be developed.

Indeed, population housing, not only residens, but also offices in nearby locations, is as close as possible to public transportation. So direct access or live there, go directly to be able to use multimodal transportation, which is also expected to be more environmentally friendly, such as environmentally friendly buses, environmentally friendly transportation including MRT, LRT and so on.
