JAKARTA - The export value of East Java for the January-April 2025 period reached 8.31 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.27 percent compared to the same period last year.

"Alhamdulillah, our export value as of April 2025 has increased significantly compared to year-on-year (yoy). Accumulated from January to April, our export value is also higher than last year's period," said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, quoted by Antara, Monday, June 9.

He said the increase in exports was supported by the non-oil and gas sector, which rose 3.65 percent from 7.81 billion US dollars to 8.10 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, oil and gas exports actually fell 32.22 percent compared to January-April 2024.

"Optimism will also be seen from the non-oil and gas sectors such as plantations, fisheries and the chemical industry. If this sector continues to be encouraged, East Java could become Indonesia's main exporter," he said.

Data from the East Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS) states that April 2025 exports reached 2.18 billion US dollars, up 19.68 percent on an annual basis. Non-oil and gas exports that month rose 21.53 percent to 2.11 billion US dollars.

Commodities with the highest increase in exports are cocoa and its processed products which grew 70.21 percent to 119.15 million US dollars, followed by animal/drug fats and oils amounting to 207.3 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, the jewelery / eye commodity experienced the largest decline, namely 40.27 percent or the equivalent of 788.68 million US dollars compared to January-April 2024.

In terms of sector, the processing industry dominates non-oil and gas exports with a contribution of 92.02 percent worth 7.65 billion US dollars, up 2.11 percent. Exports from the agricultural sector also rose 46.57 percent to 435.98 million US dollars.

"Thank you for the hard work of all entrepreneurs, farmers and East Java MSME players who continue to struggle to market local products," said Khofifah.
