JAKARTA - APAC Health and Life Sciences Summit was successfully held for the first time in Jakarta. Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin opened the forum by affirming the government's commitment to transforming the national health system, strengthening global partnerships, and inviting investment partners in Indonesia's fast-growing health sector. He emphasized the importance of technology adoption and innovative service models.

On the same occasion, the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko conveyed the importance of cooperation-based research to improve the development of sustainable health and life sciences in Indonesia. He also emphasized BRIN's focus on utilizing renewable natural resources to face local health challenges such as the development of halal vaccines.

"We aim to encourage innovations led by the private sector by utilizing our biodiversity and national infrastructure," he said.

Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Dr. Taruna Ikrar explained the regulatory reform that is being carried out by Indonesia and emphasized the importance of strategic coordination to advance public health, strengthen regulatory systems, and encourage innovation in the life sciences sector. He also highlighted the increasing collaboration between BPOM and various international institutions and emphasized the importance of investment in human resources, infrastructure, and more effective regulatory mechanisms.

"Currently, the POM is heading to the WHO Listed Authority (WLA) and this will increase the credibility of Indonesian drugs at the global level and strengthen competitiveness in the international arena," said Taruna.

"This forum is the result of ASK Health Asia's ongoing efforts in building regional platforms for innovation and partnerships in the health sector. We are trying to act as a liaison that brings together policymakers, industry players and academics throughout the Asia Pacific (APAC) region," said Dr. Chang Liu, Founder and CEO of ASK Health Asia.
