JAKARTA - PT Sigma Energy Compressindo Tbk (SICO) calls for more serious and innovative urgency in the management of gas flares in Indonesia.

This was conveyed by SICO Marketing Manager Benjamin Jordan Wangsaputra in the 2025 Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) session with the theme Accelerate Production Increase with Lower-Carbon Solutions.

Benjamin stressed that the flare gas that had been burned and thrown away had great potential to be converted into a source of productive energy, as well as to help achieve the Zero Routine Flaring 2030 target.

Indonesia is still burning around 200 MMSCFD of gas flares from hundreds of points. This is not just waste, this is an energy potential and economic value that has not been utilized," he said in his statement, Thursday, May 22.

He added that the gas flare also contributes significant emissions to the atmosphere, including CO2, black carbon, and H2S, which have a direct impact on climate change.

However, Benjamin said there were challenges such as short production life, volatile gas volume, to the lack of infrastructure, which made many companies reluctant to take advantage of this potential.

However, Benjamin said SICO offers concrete solutions through Jack Compressor Gas technology, namely compressors with a capacity of up to 750 MSCFD that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and suitable for gas flare conditions in Indonesia.

In addition, he added, there is also an electrical-based E-Fex Compressor with a larger capacity of up to 1,400 MSCFD which has high energy efficiency.

According to Benjamin, this innovation is designed for locations with adequate electricity supply such as offshore, resulting in maximum gas utilization. This technology is the result of SICO's collaboration with partners in the United States.

"We not only offer technology, but also a solution cooperation scheme. All investments and equipment are provided by SICO, and the results of monetization of gas flares can be shared directly with KKKS such as Pertamina," he explained.

Benjamin hopes that the government and industry will be more serious in providing incentives and support for this initiative.

"If we want to accelerate production with a low-carbon solution, then we have to handle the gas flare smartly and collaboratively. Don't let this potential continue to burn in vain," he said.
