JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI recorded positive performance growth in the remittance business with a transaction volume of more than 31 million US dollars or grew 13.15 percent on an annual basis (yoy).
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said this increase was supported by strengthening the service ecosystem and implementing BNI's strategy in strengthening its role as the main financial partner of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
"BNI continues to provide financial solutions for personal and corporate customers, especially Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), which are the key segments in this business," Okki said in a written statement, Monday, May 19.
He explained that countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and South Korea are listed as the main sources of remittance. In these areas, BNI customers are quite diverse ranging from informal sector workers such as household assistants, factory workers, and drivers, in the service sector such as hotels and hospitals, to professionals in strategic sectors such as oil and aviation.
Meanwhile, the largest remittance recipient areas in Indonesia include Bali, Jakarta, Bekasi, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The high volume of remittances entering these areas reflects the strong connectivity between PMI abroad and their families in the country.
"BNI takes advantage of this opportunity to expand the reach of financial services to remote areas," continued Okki.

In several countries, BNI has integrated an instant payment system and local clearing to speed up the transaction process.
In addition, BNI is also actively encouraging PMI's economic empowerment through financial literacy, business training, and banking education.
"With this approach, BNI is committed to making remittances not only as financial services, but also as a means of increasing long-term welfare," concluded Okki.
