Improving Infrastructure In West Muna, Minister Of Public Works Ready To Build Irrigation And People's Schools

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo expressed his commitment to support infrastructure improvement in West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

"God willing, we will support infrastructure in West Muna, we can do irrigation the fastest because there is an Instruction," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Wednesday, May 7.

"Meanwhile, roads are planned to be included in the Regional Infrastructure Instruction (Presidential Instruction) scheme, but this is still in the early stages," he continued.

It is known that Dody received a visit from the Regent of West Muna La Ode Darwin at the office of the Ministry of Public Works, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 6.

According to Dody, the Ministry of Public Works will also build a People's School (SR) in West Muna Regency as part of an equitable-based education development program.

"I ask the Regent to prepare land for SR who enter the construction of Phase 2A. This school will provide free education from elementary, junior high to high school levels. We will school West Muna children," he said.

The meeting discussed the plan for infrastructure support from the Ministry of Public Works to encourage development in West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, West Muna Regent La Ode Darwin welcomed the support and emphasized the regional readiness to support the PU Ministry's programs.

"We have prepared an area of 8 hectares and all supporting documents for the construction of the People's School are complete. Hopefully this will be realized soon," he said.

He added that West Muna has great potential in agriculture, livestock and fisheries. However, adequate infrastructure has not been supported.

La Ode said the potential for rice fields in West Muna reaches 5,000 hectares, but there is no technical irrigation yet.

"Some villages have even cut off their waterways, so they have to be diverted to patchy plants. But if this is allowed, the soil will be damaged in the next 2-3 years. For that, I ask for the Minister's support to build irrigation," he said.

The Ministry of Public Works is committed to supporting food self-sufficiency through irrigation development based on Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Development, Improvement, Rehabilitation and Operations and Maintenance of the Irrigation Network.

In addition, the construction of the People's School is also a real step to increase the opportunity to learn for the younger generation to realize Indonesia Gold 2045.
