JAKARTA - The handicraft industry has played a major role in the national economy, including its contribution to achieving export value because its products are capable of competitiveness in the global arena.

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that the export of the handicraft industry reached 679 million US dollars throughout 2024.

"In 2024, the export performance of the handicraft industry was recorded at US$679 million with its destination countries including China, Taiwan (China Taipei), the United States, Japan, and the Netherlands," said the Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, in a written statement, Thursday, May 1, 2025.

With this contribution, the Ministry of Industry remains consistent in providing promotional access to the international market through participation in various international standard exhibitions, both held at home and abroad.

In addition, various guidance and assistance are also carried out so that domestic small and medium industry players (IKM) are more courageous and have the ability to market their products in the world market.

"We continue to encourage handicraft IKM players to promote and establish relationships with potential international buyers."

"In addition to looking for consumers, the relationships established can also provide benefits for SMEs to increase their insight and knowledge regarding the export market," said Reni.

With the increasing ability and knowledge of handicraft IKM actors, Reni hopes that later there will be more opportunities to export.

"On the other hand, we also provide various coaching programs for IKM players so that their quality and capacity will increase," he said.

One of the IKMs that managed to penetrate the export market was IKM CV Palem Craft from Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. This company has just released exports of its products to the Netherlands with a value of US$20,596 or equivalent to Rp346 million consisting of various lamp products, mirrors, and other home deposits.

According to Reni, the release of exports is a symbol of success in penetrating the global market which can provide multiple benefits and benefits for business actors.

In this case, the achievement of exports of CV Palem Craft to the Netherlands shows that Indonesia's home decor industry has brilliant potential in the international market.

"We give our appreciation to CV Palem Craft which is able to add to the list of buyers after previously routinely exporting products to various countries in the world," he said.

In addition to spurring its export performance, CV Palem Craft also continues to actively open up job opportunities for people around its factories.

Currently, CV Palem Craft has 40 employees and at the time of increasing demand it can involve more than 500 craftsmen who are partners of the company.
