JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) has optimized state assets managed by KAI to be used as agricultural and plantation land through cooperation with third-party partners.
"KAI's support for the government's Asta Cita, especially in strengthening national food security, is a tangible manifestation of the participation of SOEs in providing benefits to the community and the state," said KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Anne Purba, Saturday, April 26.
Anne said, until 2025, 3,768 locations of KAI assets with a total area of 4,483,946 square meters have been collaborated for this program. The land is spread across various regions, covering parts of Sumatra Island, the majority of Java Island, and Madura Island.
For KAI assets on Madura Island, which are used for agriculture and plantations covering an area of 5,875 square meters spread over 29 locations. Meanwhile, in Sumatra, a total area of 525,292 square meters is located in 337 locations from Aceh Province to Lampung.
"Agriculture and plantations that use KAI assets are mostly located on the island of Java. Located in 3,402 locations spread from Banten Province to East Java, the total area of agricultural land and plantations located in KAI assets reaches 3,952,779 square meters," he explained.
Interestingly, this rented land is not only limited to non-active railway crossing areas. A total of 2,251 locations with an area of 3,030,288 square meters are located around active lines, with management that still prioritizes the safety and security of railway operations.
