The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) remains optimistic that it can achieve the national export growth target of 7.1 percent in the midst of the United States (US) trade tariff policy.

The government chose not to revise the export target this year.

The Director General (Dirjen) of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, said that Indonesia is still confident in welcoming export opportunities in the midst of the current tariff war situation.

"For export targets, of course, the government is working with fellow business actors, still trying to be optimistic in responding to this situation, although it is not easy in the midst of a situation where trade tendencies are so difficult, in conditions the world economy which is also relatively corrected," he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, April 21.

Djatmiko also said the government had not planned to adjust the export target to date. Instead of revising it, he said the government would actually try to achieve the target of relying on encouragement from a number of trade agreements.

"We will continue to try our best to achieve the targets that have been set. We are not trying to correct, but with the new agreements, we hope that we can achieve the targets that have been set," he said.

Djatmiko said that his party will continue to expand Indonesia's export market through various trade and economic cooperation agreements with non-traditional countries.

Furthermore, Djatmiko said, currently it has applied to Indonesia, namely the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) which has been going on since 2006.

However, the two countries have updated the contents of the mutually beneficial agreement following current economic developments.

"We have also signed the protocol last year, and it is hoped that this year we can implement it. So that the IJEPA protocol, which includes a market asset component, expands the opportunities of several products from Indonesia to enter the Japanese market, of course, is also expected to be one of the drivers of increasing export performance," he explained.

Not only Japan, Djatmiko said the government is also strengthening various other regional agreements such as ASEAN dialogue partners to ASEAN Australia New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA).

"There are also some protocols in the context of regional agreements such as ASEAN with dialogue partners, there is ASEAN Australia Zealand FTA. We also upgrade this and several other agreements," he said.
