Meeting Erdogan, Puan Affirms Parliamentary Diplomacy For Palestine

JAKARTA The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the Palestinian Supporting Parliament Forum The Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine in Istanbul, Turkey, Friday, April 18, 2025. In this forum, Puan held an audience with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, along with a number of parliamentary chairmen from friendly countries.

The international forum was led by the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Numan Kurtulmu totaling, and attended by parliamentary chairmen from Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Pakistan, Jordan, Senegal, as well as parliamentary representatives from Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, and Azerbaijan.

Puan was present accompanied by Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the DPR Alex Indra Lukman, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR Charles Honoris, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR Dony Oekon, and Member of Commission III of the DPR Gilang Dhielafararez. They participated in a series of Indonesian parliamentary diplomacy that emphasized full support for the struggle of the Palestinian people.

"Through this forum, the Indonesian House of Representatives voiced concrete support for Palestinian independence. In addition to the government's diplomatic path, parliament also has a strategic role through international cooperation," said DPR Speaker Puan Maharani in a written statement, Saturday, April 19.

In an audience with President Erdogan, Puan and parliamentary leaders discussed collective steps to urge the cessation of violence in Gaza. He also had a special chat with the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, Johari Abdul.

Indonesia, said Puan, consistently encourages a two-state solution as a peaceful and just way. The DPR is also actively calling for humanitarian assistance to Gaza not to stop.

"We must unite in the international parliamentary forum, speak in one voice, and take concrete steps for the sake of Palestinian independence," said Puan.

In the opening ceremony, Puan sat in line with President Erdogan, the Speaker of the Palestinian Parliament, and the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament a strong symbol of Indonesia's support in parliamentary diplomacy for Palestine.
