JAKARTA - PT PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) together with a consortium of strategic partners signed the Deed for the establishment of PT Sulawesi Maluku LNG for a gasification project for power plants in the Sulawesi Maluku Cluster.

The President Director of PLN EPI, Iwan Agung Firstantara, explained that gasification is a strategic step in the energy transition, especially in replacing the use of imported fuel with a domestic-based Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to strengthen national energy security.

"PLN EPI as PLN Subholding has a major role in ensuring a reliable primary energy supply for PLN Group generators. With this gasification project, we want to optimize the role of gas as a more environmentally friendly transition energy," said Iwan. quoted Wednesday, March 12.

He also added that this signing was an important achievement in the long journey of the gasification project.

"Alhamdulillah, today we reached an important milestone, namely the signature of the articles of association for the formation of a Special Purpose Company (SPC). This is a sign that this project legal entity has been running, so all related activities will be managed more structured under PT Sulawesi Maluku LNG," explained Iwan.

Currently, Indonesia only has six LNG regasification terminals, most of which are located in the western region, while the main LNG supply comes from Bontang and Tangguh. Therefore, the development of LNG infrastructure in Maluku Sulawesi is important to increase gas distribution, especially in Eastern Indonesia.

Iwan hopes that the formation of this SPC will immediately receive legalization from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights so that the project can run according to plan.

The Director of Gas and BBM of PLN EPI, Rakhmad Dewanto, said that this process was a continuation of the Joint Development Agreement (JDA) which was signed last year.

"A year ago, we were still in the planning stage, and today we are finally heading towards implementation. This is the result of the hard work of all parties in the consortium and PLN EPI team," said Rakhmad.

Rakhmad hopes that this project can continue to progress and achieve a Commercial Operation Date (COD) in the next two years.

With the signing of this Special Company Establishment Deed, the gasification project in Sulawesi Maluku is now officially entering the initial stage of implementation. This step is also proof of PLN's commitment to providing clean and sustainable energy for the people of Indonesia.
