The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is exploring the top five Islamic-populated countries, namely Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt to be used as export destinations for the potential Muslim fashion industry.

"With market opportunities and the development of the Muslim fashion industry today, we must be optimistic to maximize the mastery of the domestic market as well as increase our competitiveness in the global market. We can explore countries with the largest consumption of Muslim fashion, such as Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt as potential export destination countries," said Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry Reni Yanita in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, February 26.

Reni said, the opportunity for the development of the Muslim clothing industry is expected to grow rapidly in the next few years and is in line with the development of the Islamic economic market in the world.

Referring to the State of Global Islamic Economy 2023-2024 report released by the DinarsStandard Institute, it is stated that Muslim consumer spending on six commodity sectors can reach US$3.1 trillion in 2027.

The spending value grew 4.8 percent in the five-year period when compared to 2022 which only reached 2.29 trillion US dollars.

"The six commodities in the Islamic economic sector are expected to grow rapidly, namely food, fashion, media and recreation, travel, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics," said Reni.

The projected consumption of halal goods/services in Indonesia this year is estimated at US$330.5 billion. Meanwhile, for clothing products, it occupies the second highest position consumed in the Indonesian sharia market.

Therefore, in order to strengthen the ability of the domestic Muslim fashion industry, Reni invites all business actors of the sector to develop the products produced and encourages collaboration with the domestic clothing industry.

"Given that the clothing industry's workforce reaches 2.7 million workers with a total of 569,000 industries, which according to 2022 Micro and Small Industry Profile data and Indonesian Manufacturing Industry Statistics in 2022, this will support the local fashion industry to become the host at home," he said.
