Erick Thohir To Prabowo: Gold Bank Potentially Increases GDP By IDR 245 Trillion

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir met with President Prabowo Subianto. The second meeting discussed the business of bullion services or gold banks.

The bullion services or gold bank will be inaugurated by Prabowo Subianto on February 26, 2025.

"Together with the President General of the TNI (Ret.) Prabowo Subianto, we will inform you about the efforts of the bullion services or the gold bank that he will soon inaugurate," Erick wrote as quoted from the official Instagram @erickthohir, Tuesday, February 18.

In front of Prabowo, Erick said that the presence of Bank Emas will further strengthen the gold downstream ecosystem in Indonesia and provide benefits for the country and society.

With the Golden Bank in Indonesia, continued Erick, the public can make transactions such as gold storage, gold trading, gold deposits and gold financing.

"From an economic perspective, Bank Emas has the potential to increase Indonesia's GDP by IDR 245 trillion, and has the potential to create around 800,000 jobs," he explained.

Erick said that SOEs through Pegadaian and Bank Syariah Indonesia will be the pioneers of the Golden Bank in Indonesia which will soon be inaugurated by Prabowo.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said the government would form a gold bank. He said that this gold bank will be the first in Indonesia and will be inaugurated on February 26.

"We want to now have a special bank for gold in Indonesia, God willing, we will inaugurate it on February 26. I think this is the first time, yes, in our Republic," he said.

Prabowo said that so far gold in Indonesia does not have a shelter after it is mined. He said, after being mined, a lot of gold actually flowed abroad.

"So, our gold is mined a lot and flows abroad," he said.
