President Director of Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) Toto Nugroho revealed that there was a significant increase in the sale of electric vehicles (EVs) or electric vehicles in Indonesia.
Toto said, EV sales in 2024 jumped as much as 200 percent from the previous 13,000 units in 2023 to 40,000 units.
"The volume increase from EV cars is almost 200 percent. Previously, 13,000 2023, 2024, almost 40,000 EV vehicles had just left," Toto said in a Hearing Meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday, February 17.
Toto explained, almost 90 percent d of the total vehicles sold are electric vehicles with Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) battery raw materials, and not nickel raw materials.
For this reason, Toto asked for support from Commission XII to issue regulations to prioritize nickel-based batteries whose raw materials are abundant in Indonesia.

"Well, this is something that in the future we may have to ask for support as well as how in terms of regulations we can give priority to batteries that are of Nickel's nature, which in Indonesia has direct resources," explained Toto.
In addition to encouraging the use of electric and nickel-based batteries, Toto also encouraged the conversion of electric vehicles. Toto said that the conversion of vehicles from fossil fuels to electricity could reduce fuel imports so that it could support domestic energy security.
"Conversion, our import value will decrease. So this is not just downstreaming," said Toto.
