PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) made its first shipment of 125 kg of gold bullion with a purity level of 99.99 percent to PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) from the Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) PTFI smelter facility.
PTFI President Director Tony Wenas in his statement said that the initial shipment was 125 kg with a value of Rp207 billion.
"The delivery of PTFI's first gold bullion to Antam is an important step in efforts to downstream gold in Indonesia," said Tony, Thursday, February 13.
Tony explained that the incident that occurred at one of the PTFI smelter complex facilities did not stop the company from carrying out downstream mining. The construction of PMR has been completed and producing pure gold is proof of PTFI's seriousness in carrying out downstreaming.
"PTFI managed to process around 12.56 tons of anode mud from PT Smelting. From this process, 189 kg gold bullion was produced, of which 125 kg of fine gold purity was 99.99 percent, while 64 kilograms would still be recasted to meet the fine gold purity standards," explained Tony.
As a company that has integrated domestic processing and purification from upstream to downstream, Tony continued, PTFI has realized copper downstream and is currently downstreaming of gold.
"In the near future, silver downstream will follow," Tony said.
Tony added that PMR PTFI is one of the pure bullion gold producers in Indonesia with a purification capacity of around 50 tons of gold and 200 tons of silver per year and Platinum Group metals, namely 30 kg platinum, 375 kg of Paladium.
Meanwhile, Antam's President Director, Nico Kanter, explained that PTFI's collaboration with Antam is clear evidence of its commitment to developing the mineral processing industry in Indonesia and increasing competitiveness in the global market.
The synergy between PTFI and Antam is an important step in realizing Indonesia's independence in the mining sector. This step is in line with the government's efforts to reduce dependence on imported products and encourage the use of domestic products," said Nico.
Nico added that the synergy of gold absorption from PTFI is Antam's commitment to strengthening the precious metal gold business to meet the community's needs in investing in gold.
In addition, by strengthening the procurement of domestic raw materials, the company can also reduce dependence on imports.

In November 2024, PTFI and Antam signed a gold sale and purchase agreement with a purity level of 99.99 percent. The signing was witnessed directly by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir and Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung.
In the business agreement, Antam will buy as much as 30 tons of gold bullion per year with a purity of 99.99 percent of PTFI. The gold raw material from PTFI will then be processed by Antam at the Mulia Metal Processing and Purification Factory to become Antam's precious metal product.
