New KRL From China Will Operate In Semester II This Year

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI targets a series of new Electric Rail Trains (KRL) imported from China to be operated regularly in Semester II-2025.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said the new KRL can be operated with a note that if it has successfully passed the 4,000 kilometer (km) trial and the evaluation is declared good by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation.

"This is being tested first, if there are no problems, for example everything goes smoothly, hopefully in Semester II-2025 it can operate. Later, hopefully, DJKA can pass the test," he told the media at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Wednesday, February 12.

For your information, the 12 KRL series brought in from China on January 31, 2025, are undergoing a dynamic trial trip on the KRL series from Monday, February 10 to Thursday, February 13.

This test is in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 49 of 2023 concerning Standards, Procedures for Testing, and Certification of Normal Speed Train Feasibility by Self-Driving.

Previously, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Joni Martinus, also had to ensure the safety of user operations and conveniences when operating regularly.

Furthermore, Joni said that according to the regulation as well, the new KRL series will run a dynamic test as far as 4,000 KM. This testing process will be carried out on the Bogor-Jakarta City route.

"Apart from that, to optimize the test technically, KAI Commuter will conduct a dynamical test outside of busy hours of user service," he said in an official statement, Monday, February 10.

Therefore, Joni apologized if this dynamic test process had an effect on KRL operations even outside of peak hours.

"KAI Commuter also apologizes for the inconvenience of users and the delays that may have occurred during this new KRL dynamical test facility," said Joni.

In the future, continued Joni, with the operation of this new KRL, KAI Commuter as the manager hopes to meet the needs of KRL facilities for Commuter Line services.

For the record, currently the average volume of Jabodetabek Commuter Line users reaches more than 1 million people every working day.
