Indonesia Wants To Import 100,000 Tons Of Buffalo Meat To Meet Ramadan-Lebaran 2025 Needs

JAKARTA - The government plans to import 100,000 tons of buffalo meat.

This import is carried out to meet the needs during Ramadan and also Eid al-Fitr 2025.

Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi explained that the assignment for importing buffalo meat would be given to Food SOEs, namely ID Food and Perum Bulog.

(Import buffalo meat) 100,000 tons. If (import) buffalo, fix to BUMN," he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Graha Mandiri, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5.

Arief said that the import of 100.00 tons of buffalo meat would increase the amount of beef by 180,000 tons that had been decided by the previous government.

"So this is 180,000 tons (of beef) plus 100,000 tons (of buffalo meat)", he said.

Arief said the importation of buffalo meat was carried out to intervene in price and meat supply ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

He said this import would take one month to arrive in Indonesia.

"It will take one month to bring it here, right. So that's why it's still early February. We'll wait for the minutes. It's not in a hurry, so the government must have food reserves," he explained.

Meanwhile, ID FOOD President Director Sis Apik Wijayanto said that his party was still waiting for the government's official assignment to import buffalo meat.

However, continued Sis Apik, usually the import of buffalo meat comes from India, Brazil, and Australia.

"If there are several sources, there are India, Brazil, Australia. But to deal with this Eid, we use the closest one," said Sis Apik.
