Demak Flood Handling, Ministry Of Public Works Repairs 2 Points Of Jebol Sungai Tuntang Embankment

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works through the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS), the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Water Resources continues to carry out emergency handling of points of embankment and flooding in Demak Regency.

Emergency handling was carried out at 2 points where the Tuntang River collapsed, namely the flow in Tinanding Village and Baturagung Village.

Head of the Pemali River Basin Center, Juana Fikri Abdurrachman, said the handling was carried out to close the point where the Tuntang River embankment collapsed, namely with emergency handling and PLANs to strengthen and raise embankments.

"We optimize the use of heavy equipment to speed up the closure of embankments, so we hope that the embankment will be closed quickly so that community activities can return to normal. Today, God willing, it has been closed and continued the strengthening and elevation of the embankment," said Fikri, written on Friday, January 24.

In order to speed up the emergency closure of the Jebol Sungai Tuntang embankment in Tinanding Village, BBWS Pemali Juana deployed 3 excavators and soil materials, jumbo bags, glugu, bamboo, sesek and supported by 25 emergency response personnel.

Furthermore, BBWS Pemali Juana also accelerated the closure of the Jebol Sungai Tuntang embankment in Baturagung Village by mobilizing 3 excavators along with handling materials in the form of glugu, bamboo, sesek, urugan land, jumbo bags with the support of 40 emergency response personnel.

"God willing, the work is targeted to be completed within a week if conditions are normal," said Firkri.

The high intensity of rain in the Central Java region in the last few days has caused the water discharge of the Tuntang River to continue to increase so that the river is unable to accommodate water and embankments in Tinanding and Baturagung villages burst on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The steps to deal with the impact of flooding around the Tuntang River are carried out by coordinating across sectors with the Central Java Provincial Government and the Demak Regency Government.
