Government Targets All Electricityed Villages Before 5 Years

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that he is optimistic that this electrification program can be completed in the next five years. He emphasized that the government will ensure that all regions of Indonesia have access to electricity.

Previously, Prabowo received a report from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia which said that at least 6,700 hamlets had not yet been electrified. To electrify the entire region, a budget of IDR 48 trillion is needed for five years.

"Earlier I received a report that there are still several thousand hamlets that have not enjoyed electricity and require Rp48 trillion to electrify everything. If 48 trillion is divided into five, how much is Rp9 trillion. I think five years we can finish it," said Prabowo, quoted on Tuesday, January 21.

Prabowo explained that the budget needs for this program will be met through savings made by the government in various fields.

"I received a report from the Minister of Finance, my direction is to make savings in all fields. Alhamdulillah, it produces large enough savings so that our nation will carry out a transformation towards downstreaming, towards massive industrialization and will surprise the world," he explained.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with PT PLN (Persero) continues to accelerate electrification in villages and hamlets that have not enjoyed electricity, especially in areas that are difficult to reach by PLN infrastructure. This effort is made to realize the values of justice in the electricity sector and ensure that all Indonesian people get equal access to energy.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024, Indonesia has 7,281 sub-districts and 340 of them have not fully electrified. However, this does not mean that all regions in the sub-district are completely dark.

Usually in one village there are several hamlets, so only certain hamlets in the sub-district have not enjoyed access to electricity, while other areas have electricity.

"We need a budget of approximately IDR 48 trillion for 5 years for us to illuminate hamlets, villages, and sub-districts that have not been electrified," said Bahlil.
