Donald Trump Will Be Inaugurated As US President, OJK Reveals Impact On The Indonesian Economy

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar revealed the impact of Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States on the Indonesian economy.

Mahendra believes that Trump's inauguration will not have much effect on the Indonesian economy because it is currently in good condition fundamentally.

"But what is certain is that our economy is indeed strong domestically, so I think we are strengthening our focus on being able to move the domestic economy," Mahendra told reporters, Monday, January 20.

However, related to international affairs, Mahendra believes that it is still too soon to be able to predict what will be the economic impact internationally due to Trump's inauguration.

"Of course, overall we hope that whoever is the leader of a big country, like the United States, has the same interest, which increases the welfare of all people in the world, of course, including their respective countries. So I don't see that there will be too many changes in the current global conditions," he explained.

Furthermore, Mahendra said that since the last few years the domestic and global economy has faced various challenges to be able to increase growth, increase cooperation and international trade and investment.

"We hope it doesn't get worse even though we still see that the global challenges are still not easy to overcome," he concluded.
