Let's Do Charity Investment Through Sukuk Wakaf For Social Development

JAKARTA - The government is said to have opened the offering period of Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) Retail series SWR002. The offer period will take place from April 9 to June 3, 2021.

The issuance of CWLS itself is a commitment of the state in supporting the National Waqf Movement, and helping the development of social investment, as well as the development of productive waqf in Indonesia.

In addition, CWLS is an effort to encourage the diversification of sharia banking business as a Sharia Financial Institution Recipient of Waqf Money (LKSPWU). This strategy is also an opportunity to acquire new customers.

Director General of Financing and Risk Management of the Ministry of Finance Luky Alfirman said the presence of CWLS helps facilitate the pewakaf to be able to place its waqf money on safe and productive investment instruments.

"The initial issuance of CWLS conducted on a private placement in March 2020 resulted in a nominal value of Rp50.8 billion," he said in an official statement, Friday, April 9.

The proceeds of this investment are channeled by the Indonesian Waqf Agency (BWI) as a nazir to be used to help the people's economy.

On the same occasion, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) Imam Teguh Saptono said this program as a manifestation of the government's commitment and involvement to develop self-importance in a special sense and sharia economy in a broad sense.

"Through this instrument, nazir (waqf manager) will get an easy alternative and competitive returns with very low risk even zero risk," he explained.

Imam added that his party has developed various strategic programs including the provision of scholarships and assistance to teachers who are pandemic ngaji, procurement of retinal mobile screening and cataracts to be placed in all health centers in Banten Province, as well as assisting MSMEs in their business activities.

"Cooperation, synergy, and collaboration from all parties are expected to realize the development of waqf," he said.

For information, for individuals and institutions interested in charity as well as investment through Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS), can obtain it through government financial partners, namely Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), and Bank Muamalat. The minimum value set to be able to join this program is Rp1 million.
