Good News From Indramayu, Local Government Provides Life Insurance For 2,000 Small Fishermen

JAKARTA - The Government of Indramayu Regency, West Java, this year is providing an assistance program in the form of free life insurance for small fishermen worth IDR 400 million using the local APBD.

"Starting this year we will provide life insurance assistance for small fishermen," said Acting Head of the Indramayu Regency Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service Edi Umaedi in Indramayu, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, April 7.

According to him, the life insurance program, which is financed by the Regional Government of Indramayu Regency, was stipulated after the Regional Regulation on the Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen and Fish Cultivators in September 2019.

In this Perda, said Edi, one of the ways is to guarantee protection against risks to fishermen and cultivators through the fisheries and life insurance program facilities.

He continued that the regional regulation is also evidence of the Indramayu Regency Government, in order to protect small fishermen, because the fishery potential in that area is also very good.

"Currently, insurance for fishermen is not only a Central Government program, but we also participate in providing free insurance for fishermen according to the local regulation," he said.

He said that life insurance itself is given to small fishermen whose vessels are not more than 10 gross tonnage (GT).

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary of the Indramayu Regency Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service Asep Suryana said the budget disbursed by the Indramayu Regency Government was IDR 400 million.

"We have budgeted Rp. 400 million from the APBD and this is estimated to be able to finance insurance for 2,000 small fishermen," he said.
