Minister AHY: Prabowo Hopes Infrastructure Development is Right on Target

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto wants infrastructure development that is more evenly distributed and targeted throughout Indonesia.

AHY said that President Prabowo hopes that all Indonesian people, wherever they are, can feel the benefits of infrastructure development that will be presented by the government.

"The President (Prabowo) hopes that future infrastructure development will not only be targeted but can also truly touch all Indonesian people wherever they are," said Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure AHY in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

AHY said that President Prabowo's emphasis was that the infrastructure built must be able to reduce social and economic inequality.

In addition, infrastructure development will be focused on supporting areas such as food self-sufficiency, energy, and improving the quality of life of the people.

"We reduce inequality and we also focus on strengthening supporting infrastructure for food self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency, and also to improve the quality of life of our people," he said.

Not only about the economy, AHY emphasized the importance of facilities in the education and public health sectors. New economic centers will also be built to increase people's income and welfare.

"This means facilities and infrastructure in the fields of education, public health and also new economic centers to be able to once again increase the income and welfare of our people," added AHY.

He said that Prabowo also emphasized that infrastructure development must continue to pay attention to environmental sustainability. This is because development that is not well planned can create imbalances and potential natural disasters.

"Don't let development that is not well planned actually create imbalances. Moreover, disasters that will certainly harm and endanger all of us," he explained.

As part of his duties, AHY will still study further regarding the ministry he currently leads. Both in terms of the structure and authority of the ministry.

AHY also plans to hold coordination meetings and field visits to related ministries. The visit aims to explore infrastructure problems and find the right solutions.

According to AHY, these steps are important to realize infrastructure development that is not only technically effective, but also sustainable in terms of social and environmental aspects.

"This is the strength that I have carried out so far, while leading the Ministry of ATR/BPN, which I think is the best practice that I can do again in this new post (Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development)," said AHY.

AHY also mentioned that there are five ministries under the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, first the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR)/National Land Agency (BPN).

Second, the Ministry of Public Works (PU); third the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas; fourth the Ministry of Transmigration; and fifth the Ministry of Transportation.
