JAKARTA - The Indonesian Keramic Industry Association (Asaki) welcomes the trade restriction policy in the form of anti- dumping import duties (BMAD) that have been promulgated by the government on October 14, as well as the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) which is mandatory for the ceramic sector.

Chairman of Asaki Edy Suyanto said the regulation is proof of the government's presence and alignment in protecting the national ceramic industry from trade fraud in the form of dumping from imported ceramics.

The presence of this BMAD, said Edy, will be the beginning of the revival of the national ceramic industry, which has decreased in the last 10 years due to dumping practices, resulting in a number of factories stopping production and the level of utilization experiencing a decline.

"We hope that the extension of the Safeguard Measure Import Duty can also be on time in November," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 17.

He conveyed that after the BMAD application of imported ceramic tiles from China and the support of the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) Number 36 of 2024 concerning mandatory SNI, it will soon restore the level of national ceramic production utilization which is currently at the level of 63 percent, and is projected to move up to 67-68 percent by the end of 2024.

"Asaki set a national production utilization target in 2025 at 80 percent and in 2026 in the range of 90 percent," he said.

In addition, his party also hopes that through this regulation it can make the ceramic sector host in its own country, as well as be optimistic that it can support Prabowo Subianto's new government program Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the construction of people's houses of 3 million per year.

Previously, Asaki said that apart from mandatory SNI and BMAD, certain natural gas price programs (HGBT) for the ceramic sector also encouraged optimism in the sector in welcoming the presidential and vice presidential programs elected Prabowo-Gibran related to the construction of people's houses.
