JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarder Association (ALFI) Akbar Djohan encouraged the formation of the National Logistics Agency (BLN) in the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government.

According to Akbar, this agency will be a new breakthrough in fixing the governance of the national logistics ecosystem.

"It takes a big step in unraveling the problems that have occurred in our logistics sector, one of which can be answered by the presence of the National Logistics Agency (BLN)," said Akbar at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday, October 8.

Akbar said, based on Bappenas data, the economic turnover from the logistics sector reached Rp400 trillion and contributed to the country.

He also believes that BLN can be an innovative step in attracting more investment from within and outside the country, to optimizing logistics sector revenue.

In addition, Akbar said that BLN could be a new fuel in reviving the manufacturing industry sector which is sluggish and prevents deindustrialization.

"The strategic initiative to produce this new institution or institution will be the commander in charge of organizing the orchestra from 16 ministries and institutions. Because logistics is from upstream to downstream," said Akbar.

Akbar, who is also the Commercial Director of PT Krakatau Steel Tbk, also said that BLN can create an integrated national logistics ecosystem.

He said this had a big impact in unraveling the chaoticness of the national logistics sector which seemed to be running separately.

"This is the right time for Indonesia to have an independent National Logistics Agency based on a law that will create harmonization and integration of inter-ministerial regulations," he said.

In addition, Akbar reminded, the regulatory issue in the middle of last year which affected 17,304 containers was detained at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta and 9,111 containers in Tanjung Perak, Surabaya.

Akbar said that the blockage of thousands of containers in the two main ports provides a negative image for the Indonesian logistics sector and hampers the national supply chain.

"Problems like this will definitely repeat themselves if there is no special agency that regulates and is responsible for overcoming these problems," he explained.

With the presence of BLN, according to Akbar, there is one special institution that has full authority to integrate regulations from various ministries.

According to him, this will be a stepping stone for the national logistics sector.

"Logistic business actors will definitely support it because business operations will be more effective and its impact on our economy as a whole," Akbar said.
