JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Temef Dam in South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), today.

This dam is one of the dams built by the government in NTT in the last 10 years. The other three dams are the Rotiklot Dam, Raknamo and Napun Gete.

"With the grace of God Almighty, this morning I inaugurate the Temef Dam in South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province," Jokowi said in his remarks as seen on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Wednesday, October 2.

Jokowi said the Temef Dam had been built since 2017. The inundation area is capable of reaching 298 hectares (ha), so that it can accommodate water as much as 45 million cubic meters of water.

The dam, which was built at a cost of IDR 2.7 trillion, could irrigate approximately 4,500 ha of rice fields.

"It will be very useful for farmers to plant rice, corn, cassava and others. It can also reduce flooding in South Central Timor and Malacca Regencies," he said.

According to the President, water is very vital in NTT so that people can plant rice, cassava and corn.

The Head of State assessed that water is the key to the prosperity of the citizens of NTT.

"This is only filled with 20 percent water. Later January will be filled with 100 percent. I entrust this Temef Dam to the welfare of our people in South Central Timor and also the surrounding community," he said.
