Jokowi Gives Homework To Prabowo-Gibran: Lowers Unemployment Rate By 4.5 Percent And Poverty By 7 Percent

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the governments of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka can reduce the number of open unemployment and poverty.

According to him, the open unemployment rate in 2025 can be reduced to 4.5 percent.

"The open unemployment rate in 2025 is expected to be reduced to 4.5 to 5 percent," he said in a speech delivering the 2025 RAPBN and Financial Notes, at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Friday, August 16.

In addition to the unemployment rate, Jokowi targets the poverty rate to drop in the range of 7 to 8 percent.

"The poverty rate is reduced in the range of 7 to 8 percent," he said.

Jokowi targets the Gini ratio to be in the range of 0.379 to 0.382. Meanwhile, the Human Capital Index (IMM) is at the level of 0.56.

The Farmer's Exchange Rate (NTP) is increased in the range of 115 to 120. The Fisherman's Exchange Rate (NTN) is maintained in the range of 105 to 108," he explained.

On this occasion, Jokowi claimed that indicators of people's welfare during his administration continued to increase.

He said this was marked by the poverty rate dropping sharply to 9.03 percent in 2024.

"The indicator of community welfare has increased significantly. The poverty rate has fallen sharply to 9.03 percent in 2024," he said.

"The extreme poverty rate has also dropped significantly to 0.83 percent in 2024," he added.

In addition to the poverty rate that has decreased, Jokowi also said the unemployment rate has decreased to a position of 4.8 percent in 2024.

Jokowi said the decline in the unemployment rate was in line with the addition of 21.3 million new workers in the 2015 to 2024 period.

"The unemployment rate has dropped to 4.8 percent in 2024," he explained.
