Fighting For Energy Resilience, PHE Continues To Explore The Potential For Geological Hydrogen Exploration In RI

JAKARTA Through a series of innovations and developments in the field of Exploration as an effort to improve the company's performance in maintaining national energy security, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) continues to strive to develop exploration potential for Geological Hydrogen.

PHE Exploration Director, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, said that PHE through the motto 'Explore the Potential' tried to examine the potential of Geological Hydrogen to ensure PHE always oversees national energy security.

Energy resilience is something very important for the resilience of a nation. One of the keys to achieving our energy security is to become an energy producer, and for that we need energy reserves so that our business is sustainable. Referring to this, because Net Zero Emission is absolute, hydrogen is one of the interesting answers in the future. This is a challenge for all of us. Therefore, it is hoped that we will take definite steps to be able to start exploration of Geological Hydrogen or natural hydrogen in Indonesia," said Muharram in a written statement, Thursday, June 27.

Directly involved in the 2024 Hydrogen Summit International Event, which takes the theme 'Harnessing Hydrogen & Howdyia: Powerful Sustainable Investment Pathway in Indonesia', is a form of PHE's support in accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia. Not only ensuring the realization of Net Zero Emmission, but also ensuring value creation and encouraging the nation's economic growth.

The Indonesia International Hydrogen Summit 2024 activity is also in line with the PHE vision and mission as well as the company's roadmap related to Emission Reduction in 2025 2034, as well as the PHE Sustainability Policy policy to become an environmentally friendly company that provides energy access and supports green energy to support the national climate transition agenda.

In this event held by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, PHE provides a lot of information to visitors regarding the performance efforts of PHE Exploration in finding Geological/Natural Hydrogen, which will be one of Pertamina's hopes as a greener and cleaner energy, through further cooperation and research with all parties, both the government, academics, researchers, as well as stakeholders and other institutions.

PHE itself has begun to conduct Geological and Geophysical Studies of the Geological Hydrogen Potential in East Sulawesi Ophiolite as a step to prepare a 'clean energy exploration' in collaboration with Pertamina University and supported by the results of recent research from the Geological Survey Center, the Geological Agency.

Geological Hydrogen is a natural hydrogen source that comes from below the earth's surface and is stored in rocks. Geological understanding of rock and underground geological knowledge is needed to be able to explore and exploit it. Natural hydrogen exploration includes new things in the world of energy and is very close to oil and gas exploration activities. Some countries that have done so are Mali, United States, Australia, Spain, France, and Brazil. PHE through its oil and gas exploration capabilities and experience, can certainly explore Geological Hydrogen or natural hydrogen.

PHE will continue to invest in upstream oil and gas operations and business management according to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. PHE has been registered with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as a member since June 2022. PHE is committed to Ten Universal Principles or Ten Principles from UNGC in its strategy and operations, as part of implementing the ESG aspect. Supporting the Government aspect, PHE is also always committed to Zero Tolerance on Bribery by ensuring prevention of fraud is carried out and ensuring that companies are clean of bribery. One of them is by implementing the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) which has been standardized ISO 37001:2016.

PHE continues to develop prudent and excellent operation management at home and abroad professionally to realize the achievement of becoming a world-class oil and gas company that is Environmentally Friendly, Socially Responsible and Good Governance.
