DPR Approves Destry Damayanti To Return To Be BI's Senior Deputy Governor

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) officially approved Destry Damayanti to return to serving as Deputy Senior Governor (DGS) of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the period 2024-2029.

The decision was based on the results of the fit and proper test which was carried out yesterday at Commission XI of the DPR RI and did not receive a complete fit from Commission XI for its performance so far and was ratified at the 19th DPR RI Plenary Meeting (Rapim) Session Period V for Session Year 2023-2024, Tuesday, June 4.

Deputy Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI Fathan Subchi said based on a letter given by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to the Head of the Indonesian House of Representatives dated May 7, 2024, he re-proposed Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Senior Deputy Governor.

Therefore, Fathan said that Commission XI of the DPR RI had carried out a series of activities to approve Destry as DGS Bank Indonesia, namely holding internal meetings, fit and proper tests for BI Senior Deputy candidates.

"On June 3, 2024, a fit and proper test was carried out. Commission XI held an internal meeting and agreed on decision making by deliberation and consensus, with the results of the elected candidate for senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia being Destry Damayanti," he said at the 19th DPR RI Plenary Meeting. Session Period V for Session Year 2023-2024, at the DPR RI Building, Tuesday, June 4.

Furthermore, after a report from Commission XI, Fathan submitted the ratification document to the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, to be ratified in the Rapim.

After receiving the document, Puan then asked for approval from members of the DPR in the plenary session of the Commission XI report on whether to approve Destry Damayanti to become Deputy Senior Governor (DGS) of Bank Indonesia (BI).

"The council session that we respect, now allow us to ask the honorable council hearing whether the report from Commission XI of the DPR RI on the results of the fit and proper test for the candidate for Deputy Senior Governor (DGS) of Bank Indonesia (BI) can be approved?" he said.
