Airlangga Optimistic Indonesia's Digital Economy Value Reaches 130 Billion US Dollars In 2025

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia's digital economy, which currently reaches 90 billion US dollars, is expected to increase to 130 billion US dollars by 2025.

This is also in line with the potential increase in the digital economy in the ASEAN region, which has a population of around 600 million. With the implementation of the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), the value of the digital economy in the ASEAN region in 2030, which was originally estimated by various study institutions to reach 1 trillion US dollars, will increase to reach 2 trillion US dollars.

In addition to issues regarding cyber security in the use of digital technology, Airlangga also conveyed that the availability of digital infrastructure is also one of the issues that exist in increasing the availability of internet networks.

"I see that the problem of cyber security will always be a problem in the digital economy. With characteristics as an archipelagic country, Indonesia cannot only rely on fiber optics as a solution to providing internet networks throughout Indonesia," he said in his statement, Friday, May 24.

When asked about the purpose of the arrival of a number of CEOs of world technology companies to Indonesia, Airlangga said that Indonesia had taken strategic steps by making the digital economy the next major engine of economic growth.

"Indonesia is home to 10 unicorns and 2 decacorns," he said.
