JAKARTA Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) as an investment holding company in the development of new energy materials, invites all parties including SOEs to collaborate in expanding the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in the country.

The collaboration was implemented through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the implementation of a new energy ecosystem in BUMN with seven SOEs in five strategic sectors, namely the telecommunications, plantation and food, defense, tourism, and transportation sectors.

The seven SOEs are PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero), PT Pupuk Indonesia Utilities, PT Len Industri (Persero), PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesia (Persero), PT INKA (Persero), and PT Prima Armada Raya.

Secretary of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, Rabin Indrajad Hattari said that his party strongly supports collaboration in the development of the New Energy Ecosystem in various strategic BUMN sectors.

According to Rabin, this step is a foundation that can provide inspiration and benchmarks for sustainable development.

"We hope that this MoU can be followed up immediately through various concrete steps that can support the achievement of net zero emissions in various sectors. We also encourage other SOEs to collaborate to accelerate the energy transition in the BUMN environment," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 30.

Meanwhile, IBC President Director Toto Nugroho said the acceleration of the implementation of the new energy ecosystem is in line with the spirit and mandate given by SOE Minister Erick Thohir to IBC to be the leading party in regional EV and battery hub development.

As is known, the government will carry out the achievement of Net Zero Emission in 2060. This step is part of efforts to support government policies through various development initiatives including the new energy ecosystem which is currently being developed by IBC.

"Of course, it is sustainable with the development of an integrated nickel downstream industry currently being carried out by IBC," said Toto.

Toto said the IBC invites all parties, including state-owned enterprises, government and private bodies as well as various other stakeholders to collaborate in expanding the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem.

"With the aim of implementing a new energy ecosystem for a sustainable and greener future so as to create Clean and Sustainable Future for a better life for the Indonesian people," he said.

Director of IBC Institutional and Commercial Relations, Reynaldi Istanto said that as a first step, the initiation of the new energy ecosystem in 2024 is planned to include the use of electric trail motors for plantation areas.

Then, he continued, the use of lithium ion batteries for telco, the implementation of electric motor fleets and electric buses for tourism areas, the use of battery cell IBC for the defense industry, and the implementation of battery energy storage for use on trains.

"In addition to the potential to reduce carbon emissions, the implementation of this new energy ecosystem is also a market creation of downstream nickel batteries carried out by IBC, as well as opening up opportunities for domestic industry and employment through the localization of the ecosystem industry," he explained.

"In its implementation, IBC partners with global players so that the technology adopted has good performance. This partnership can also increase the capability of human resources and the potential for technology transfer," Reynaldi continued.
