JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division IV Tanjungkarang clarified the death toll from bus passengers in a train collision incident with buses at the Way Pisang and Martapura crossings, South Sumatra, Sunday, April 21.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Divre IV Tanjungkarang, Azhar Zaki Assjari, said previously that four people died and 15 were injured, but after re-tracing the hospital, the number of victims who died was one person and 11 people were injured.

"We apologize for the data errors that were informed in the previous press release," Zaki said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 22.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division IV Tanjungkarang regretted the incident that occurred on the Way Pisang (WAP) and Martapura (MP) road plots KM 193+7.

The incident occurred when a bus grazed Rajabasa train from the Tanjungkarang to Kertapati connection. For this incident, the KA crew and passengers of the Rajabasa train were all safe, there were absolutely no casualties or injuries.

"After we confirmed it to the hospital that handled the Lakalantas victim at 21.30 WIB, one victim died and 11 people were injured in the incident," said Zaki.

Zaki explained that the incident occurred on Sunday, at 13.10 WIB, when the Rajabasa train relationship between Tanjungkarang arrived at Kertapati being hit by a bus at KM 193+7 plots of Way Pisang (WAP) and Martapura (MP) roads.

The crossing is a crossing that KAI has installed manual gate which is currently guarded by the surrounding community independently.

He explained that because of the incident, several trains, especially the Goods train, had been disrupted. However, the evacuation process was completed at 15.24 WIB so that the train trip is now back to normal.

At the time of the incident the driver had sounded the 35 motto repeatedly but was ignored by the bus driver so that the collision could not be avoided.

"We have tried to stop the train, but due to the close distance and the speed of the train tonnage, the bus was dragged about 50 meters. For this incident, of course, we suffered material losses which resulted in the Rajabasa train journey which was going to the ERtapati having to be late and several other trains had to be held back," said Zaki.

Due to this incident, Zaki deeply regrets that there are still road users who do not stop and look right and left when crossing the train crossing.

He reminded vehicle users and pedestrians who want to pass a railroad crossing (KA) to always be careful by always stopping and looking to the right and left.

Zaki reminded the public, both motorized vehicle drivers and pedestrians, to remain careful when crossing a level crossing.

Legally, continued Zaki, the rules when vehicles cross railroad crossings have been strictly regulated in Article 114 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).

The article reads, at a level crossing between the railroad and road lines, vehicle drivers are required to stop when the signal has sounded, railroad doors have begun to be closed, and/or other signs. Vehicle drivers are required to prioritize trains and give the main rights to vehicles that first cross the tracks, "said Zaki.
